Fairlight GallowaysThe Gold Coast is the base for one of Queensland's first Belted and White Galloway Studs. Fairlight Galloways was established in May 1997 with the purchase of selected Belted cows, calves and a bull from several of the breeds' leading herds. Since then various other bloodlines have been introduced to further broaden the genetic base. In November 1997, Fairlight Galloways expanded with the importation of the first White Galloways to Queensland. Fairlight Galloways is owned and operated by Kevin and Stephen Habermann along with Kevin's wife, Shirley. Kevin and Shirley run a commercial cattle property at Warwick, on the Darling Downs and their son Stephen has acreage on the Gold Coast. Both properties work in conjunction with one another with the Warwick property used as a breeding base and the costal property for finishing the show and sale stock. The Habermann's aim to produce high quality Belted and White Galloways suitable for both commercial cattleman and small acreage holder alike. The breeds hardiness has already seen stock sold to large properties in Central and Northern Queensland, and, due to the great Galloway temperament, Galloways can now be found on many small farms stretching right up the Queensland Coast. A lot of people ask if Galloways are affected by the Queensland heat. We have found that the Galloways shed a lot of their outer course hairs and sleek right back during summer. In fact they can be seen grazing out in the paddock when other breeds are lying in the shade. Show success has also come to the Habermann's. Due to the relative low numbers of Galloways in Queensland they often compete against other British Breeds at shows. On a number of occasions they have taken out Champion Breed female with their exhibits. Royal Show success has also come their way with the Fairlight stud successfully exhibiting each year that Galloways and Belted Galloways have been included in the Royal Brisbane Show. The Gold Coast is Australia's number one tourist destination: visitors and enquiries are always welcome.
